Stoneleigh to Pop-Up at Auckland Stopover for Volvo Ocean Race
Stoneleigh is proud to be an Official Port Sponsor of the Auckland Stopover for the 2011/12 Volvo Ocean Race, and will be popping up in the form of an al-fresco garden bar throughout the duration of this highly anticipated event.
Auckland Viaduct will be transformed into a vibrant Race Village from 8 – 18 March for the Auckland Stopover, with the new Viaduct Events Centre acting as Race HQ. Te Wero Island will be the entertainment centre for the event and home to the Stoneleigh pop-up bar.
This stunning al-fresco venue will offer visitors the chance to enjoy wines from the recently released Stoneleigh Latitude range, which herald from Marlborough’s ‘Golden Mile’ - a special part of Marlborough known for outstanding grape growing conditions.
Open from 11.00am – 9.00pm throughout the duration of the Auckland Stopover, the Stoneleigh pop-up bar is the ideal venue from which to take in the packed programme of events and live music on offer.
“We’re thrilled to be able to showcase our Stoneleigh Latitude wines with visitors to the Auckland Stopover of the 2011/12 Volvo Ocean Race. Held in a superb location, we’re proud to be associated with such a highly anticipated event, and look forward to taking in all of the In-Port action whilst enjoying the al-fresco Stoneleigh venue,” says Stoneleigh Winemaker, Jamie Marfell.
The Volvo Ocean Race is the greatest test of sailing prowess and human endeavour: the world’s fastest monohulls race a nine month marathon around the globe, deep into the bleak latitudes of the Southern Ocean and through the world’s most hostile seas.
The Auckland Stopover features an In-Port Race, points counting towards the Volvo Ocean Race overall standings, and a Pro-Am Race. The last Auckland Stopover was a decade ago, during the 2001/2002 Race, and the 2012 Stopover will be the eighth time the Race has come to Auckland.
Located at the vibrant Race Village, the Stoneleigh pop-up al-fresco bar will be open to visitors from 11.00am till 9.00pm daily during the Auckland Stopover, 8 – 18 March.
About Stoneleigh
