Christmas Concert with a Difference Planned for Saturday
When Mighty River Harmony members started planning their annual showcase concert this year they resolved to do things differently. Instead of the usual timing in August, prior to the barbershop singers’ national convention, they decided that the end of the year would allow for a more festive occasion.
Christmas in Harmony certainly promises to be festive and different. The rich sound of Might River Harmony, the largest men’s barbershop chorus in the country, will be complemented by the sparkle and style of internationally acclaimed Waikato Rivertones women’s chorus. Experienced barbershop quartets Gridlock and Red will be working hard not to be upstaged by the talented youngsters Goldilocks and the Three Bears, and the Hamilton’s G4 will add some levity.
Soprano Blair White and flautist Kate Sinclair will add variety to the show as will the duo Lynn Jamieson and Jane Holmes with their rendition of the Cat Duet by Rossini.
Oh yes, and it’s Christmas so there will be carols and plenty of opportunity for the audience to sing along with the choruses.
Christmas in Harmony is at the Gallagher Academy of Performing Arts, University of Waikato, on Saturday 3rd December at 2pm. Adults $25, Seniors/unwaged $20, students/child $10.
