Tango passion, sexy Salsa – Wellington’s Masquerade Ball and Carnival combine for an unforgettable night of dance, music and romance celebrating the start of Valentine’s Day. “Who will you be dancing with?”
Wellington’s first Fringe Festival Tango and Salsa Masquerade Ball and Carnival, produced by +Tangosalon, Wellington.
Venice style carnival, accompanied with live music from Wellington’s romance violinist Elena and her band Simply Fantastic.
Featuring two WORLD PREMIER dance performances from Cecilia Trini (Argentina) and Matthew Civil (NZ), and Stephan Resch (Germany) and Era Soukhin (Russia) .
Tango and Salsa performances from International and New Zealand dancers, featuring Cecilia Trini (Argentina) and Matthew Civil (NZ), and Stephan Resch (Germany) and Era Soukhin (Russia), Viva Latina Dance Company Wellington - Alex White and Jacinta Roe, Wellington’s Kiwi Salsa – Oliver Zavala-Ron (Chile), Alicia Walker, Estefan and Mereana Beconcini.
Tango is a couples dance from Argentina, and celebrates being “one together”, very romantic, sensual and full of passion, tango is danced throughout the world.
Salsa is a sexy, passionate and an alluring dance for two.
Masquerade Balls are famous throughout the world and gives the dancers/participants a chance to entice, to allure, to be seen and to be hidden. Who is dancing and who is performing? Performance and reality become indistinguishable.
The Carnival is a celebration of Wellington’s embrace of mystique, dress-up, fun, culture, fashion and style.
+Tangosalon’s Masquerade Ball and Carnival embrace Wellington’s iconic fashion, arts, music and culture scene. It’s a special night for singles and couples to meet, to dance and to be together through to Valentine’s Day.
The Carnival starts at 6pm, 13 February at the St. James Theatre, ground floor. While arriving and gathering Elena and Simply Fantastic will be performing live. Elena and Simply Fantastic are renowned for their live performances and have performed at WOW, World of Wearable Arts and at the A-list David Beckham party.
From 7.30pm Salsa and Tango performances by International and National dancers will be debuted:
WORLD PREMIER! Cecilia Trini – a Tango dancer, teacher and performer from Argentina with Matthew Civil – tango dancer and teacher, and former NZ Tango Champion. Their debut performance.
WORLD PREMIER! Stephan Resch and Era Soukhin from Auckland, Salsa and Tango dancers. Their debut performance.
Alex White, former NZ Tango Champion and Jacinta Roe from Wellington, Salsa and Tango dancers and teachers, will perform new choreography.
Oliver Zavala-Ron and Alicia Walker (Kiwi Salsa) from Wellington, Salsa dancers and teachers will perform some hot salsa, and a combination Salsa with Estefan and Mereana Beconcini.
From 8 – 10pm, DJ Mooch! from Wellington will be playing hot salsa and dance music. From 10 – 1am Valentine’s Day, DJ Anne-Maree from Nelson will be playing enticing, romantic tango and Nuevo music.
+Tangosalon’s Masquerade Ball and Carnival is produced by Sharon Vanesse and Stephen White, both from Wellington. Vanesse and White teach Tango and organize Tango dances in Wellington.
