A new charitable trust has been established to support up and coming musical talent in New Zealand. The Lewis Eady
Charitable Trust Inc. was established in 2008 and will be officially launched in Auckland on 18 November.
The trust will support musicians at not only a tertiary level, but also at primary, intermediate and secondary levels
says Trust founder John Eady. The Trust aims to support young artists by providing performance opportunities, by
providing financial assistance through scholarships and grants and through assistance with loan instruments in
circumstances of hardship where the lack of a suitable instrument will hinder a career.
In 2008 and 2009 the Trust has provided performance opportunities through two concert series. The Lewis Eady Charitable
Trust Emerging Artist Series sees performers nominated from Auckland, Waikato, Wellington and Canterbury’s Schools of
Music. They perform at the Lewis Eady showroom in Remuera and this years’ artists have included Maria Mo (Waikato),
John-Paul Muir (Auckland) and jazz pianist Mark Baynes.
The second concert programme is called the Steinway House Concert Series, which merges emerging talent with Lewis Eady
clients that have recently purchased Steinway grand pianos. For both of these events all proceeds go to the Trust.
In late 2008, Lewis Eady donated and Kawai RX2 5’10” grand piano valued at $34,000 to the Trust. The piano is currently
on loan to Jason Bae – a previous winner of the Auckland Junior Music Contest.
The Lewis Eady Trust has also taken over the running of the Auckland Junior Music Contest as well as the New Zealand
International Piano Festival.
The Trust will be officially launched at the Lewis Eady 125th anniversary celebrations at Hopetoun Alpha in Auckland on
18 November. Lewis Eady will also be celebrating their anniversary with a Grand Sale at the Newmarket showroom on 27 –
29 November. For more information visit http://http://www.lewiseady.co.nz
