AUCKLAND (NPRT/Pacific Media Watch): The National Pacific Radio Trust, which runs the nationwide NiuFM radio network and radio 531PI, has a new chief executive officer.
He is Tom Etuata, an experienced and highly skilled broadcaster who has worked in the industry in both the Pacific region and New Zealand for the past 12 years.
Trust chairman Faamatuainu Tino Pereira says the board has chosen someone who will lead the organisation through the current economic environment and will play a pivotal role in consolidating the organisation following the recent restructuring phase of the network.
Tom has demonstrated great leadership skills since taking over the acting CEO role over the last nine months, as well as developing an ability to work effectively and productively with key government stakeholders, Pacific communities, and key commercial clients.
Tom Etuata brings a wide knowledge of broadcasting from programming, sales and community radio. His intimate knowledge and greater understanding of the Pacific audience will significantly enhance the value of the network and the organisation.
He is the right person for the job according to Mr Pereira.
Tom Etuata is Niuean, 43, and married with a teenage daughter. A 12-year veteran of broadcasting, Mr. Etuata is also a keen fitness instructor. He is on a number of Trusts and Boards like the Pacific Music Awards Trust, Samoan Sports Association, and is the Secretary-General of the South Pacific Bodybuilding Federation.
I believe in this organisation, says Tom Etuata, I am honoured to take it forward. In light of the recent economic recession there will be some tough decisions to be made but I am more than positive about its sustainability and future.
Tom Etuata takes up his permanent appointment immediately.
