Gisborne’s BW CAMPING FESTIVAL is proud to announce their first line-up over the New Year period, running from 27
December 2009 through to 1 January 2010 at BW Campgrounds (formally known as Baywatch Campgrounds).
The perfect accompaniment to RHYTHM & VINES, BW promises to keep the entertainment rolling throughout the week for the campers staying across the five
campsites. BW acts include a stellar group of local and international favourites performing across three stages this
year.
First up, off the back of a planned US tour in September, the infectious grooves and melodies of THE BLACK SEEDS are set
to hit BW this summer. Led by the vocals of Barnaby Weir and Daniel Weetman, at their core THE BLACK SEEDS produce a
boundary-crossing fusion of dub, funk, afrobeat and soul, mixed with a vintage reggae base. The 8-piece Wellington band
have carved out their reputation on the back of two double-platinum selling albums, and a masterful live show regarded
as one of the finest in New Zealand.
From further afield, THE POTBELLEEZ (Aus) stand unquestionably as one of Australia’s most in-demand acts. In 2007 and
2008 alone, they played over 300 gigs, with Dave and Jonny displaying breathtaking skills over four CDJS, two mixers and
two FX units, and Blue and Kidron weaving their magic up front. THE POTBELLEEZ are definitely one of hottest damn dance
acts on the planet right now, and are bringing their infectious grooves to the BW campers of Gisborne this summer.
Reggae is one of the bloodlines of New Zealand music - which accounts for the extraordinary success of Hamilton’s
KATCHAFIRE who will be performing this year at BW. Their astonishing debut album, the prophetically named ‘Revival’,
went double platinum and included kiwi favourites such as ‘Giddy Up’ and ‘Who You With’. Two further albums and
countless shows later, KATCHAFIRE remain unique within New Zealand music.
Tagged ‘The Pioneers of Drum & Bass’ CONCORD DAWN have been making waves in the world of electronic music for many years now and have earnt a fearsome
reputation for their live performance with extensive touring in NZ, Asia, America, Europe, Canada and Australia. The NZ
born duo, Matt Harvey (aka Matty C) and Evan Short (aka Kiljoy), have also featured at almost all of the major dance
festivals in New Zealand and will be well equipped to bring the noise to BW.
Producer/DJ Thomas Olsen a.k.a TOMMY TRASH (Ministry of Sound – AUS) is fast making his way to being one of the biggest
names in Australian dance music. His monster new single ‘Need Me To Stay’ just smashed the official Aria Top 40 singles
chart in Australia, making him the highest selling Australian artist in the Aus Top 40 this week. TOMMY TRASH is
currently in the middle of a non-stop Australian tour supporting the platinum selling Ministry of Sound Sessions CD. His
reputation as a formidable producer guarantees to shake up BW!
From the sun and wave drenched most eastern tip of Aotearoa, local DJs THIRTYEIGHTFORTY (aka Tim Livingston and Toby
Burrows) will be rolling over several genres from down beat, to hip-hop, to electro jams at BW this year. The boys like
to keep the dance floor bumping with their fusion of house flavours on the deep and funky tip. THIRTYEIGHTFORTY have
been rocking festivals and club shows recently with a long list of DJ greats from NZ and around the globe.
Campers will have access to three stages around the BW venue this year. The Main Stage will be situated in the Sound
Shell adjacent to the camps and play host to all the major artists each night, including two huge shows on the 27th and
28th December, and RHYTHM & VINES after parties on the 29th and 30th of December.
The Sound Shell has been expanded this year and will feature a second stage - The Lagoon Stage - that will host a number
of upcoming and well known NZ electronic artists.
Providing entertainment during the daylight hours, the Beach Stage will bring the beach to life with all day dance
parties on the sand. This third stage will be set right on the beach opposite BW’s largest camp (Watson).
With tickets for RHYTHM & VINES selling at an unprecedented rate, and over 9,000 of the 13,000 BW Camping spots already snapped up across the
five sites, people keen to book into BW this year will need to get in quick to make sure they don’t miss out!
