Food bank users at Downtown Community Ministry are finding organic fruit and vegetables included in their parcels after support from Paraparaumu’s Organic Connection.
Last year, Organic Connection subscribers from all around the Wellington region were asked to contribute towards a charitable box for the food bank and now boxes are delivered to DCM, on average, once a month.
DCM Community Worker Janice Coldicott says, “The response from food bank users has been really positive. There’s a definite buzz in the waiting room when some fresh food is part of the food parcels”.
Janice hopes food bank support will increase so fresh vegetables and fruit might be offered every week. Shoppers and other food bank supporters might also like to give tinned or dehydrated vegetables, says Janice.
“This offers food bank users a simple and quick, yet delicious alternative.”
Organic Connection provides boxed fruit and vegetables for homes around the Wellington region. If bulletin readers are interested in contributing to a DCM box or finding out more about delivered organic vegetables they can go www.organicconnection.co.nz or call 04 298 7377
