Local Film producer appointed to World Board
The International Quorum of Picture Producers (IQ) has announced in Switzerland that New Zealand television producer,
Ondrej Havas has been elected to IQ’s 15 person international Board of Directors.
IQ, the only international network of film production companies of its kind, produces over $US1 billion in film and
television productions annually.
Membership includes film production companies in more than 45 countries.
Ondrej Havas, who returned last week from the Board’s quarterly meeting, said his company has been a member for over ten
years.
“It has been very worthwhile for Omnicron,” he said. “Most recently we commissioned overseas work for Fonterra in Chile
and worked with our Chinese partners in Shanghai for NZ Trade and Enterprise.
“Last year we sourced a Spanish film crew for America’s Cup footage. But the relationship works both ways. “Within New
Zealand, the IQ network has recently commissioned us to flim for Microsoft and National Geographic’s television arm.”
Ondrej Havas established Omincron when he was a teenager in the early 1980’s. The company has also won over 50 local and
international awards since 1997.
Background to IQ
Founded in 1966, IQ grew from North Carolina filmmaker Walter Klein’s vision to create a worldwide association of
filmmakers to share knowledge and pool international production resources. Its members are primarily producers who own
and manage production companies around the globe with diverse expertise in feature films, television programming,
commercial and documentary production, corporate and news media.
Admission to the association follows strict selection criteria and requires the candidate to meet high professional
standards. Limited to 100 members, IQ delivers clear-cut business advantages, such as branch offices worldwide, access
to foreign locations and crews, equipment hire and local experience.
An annual conference binds the organization with a new location chosen each year. In recent years conferences have been
held in New York, Shanghai, Rome, Sydney, Tokyo, Tallinn and Los Angeles. This year it will take place in Quito,
Ecuador.
