New, young song-writers take to the stage with top NZ musicians to benefit Play It Strange
SJD, Graham Brazier and Dave McArtney will join emerging young talent Anna MacDonald and Louis Baker in front of 350
guests at this special fundraising dinner, concert and auction. Former Split Enz members Mike Chunn and Robert Gillies
and their sons will also perform at this glittering event as will Cydel and a 30 piece ukulele orchestra.
‘A Night With Strange Friends’, 6.30pm, Thursday 17th April at the ASB Lounge at Auckland’s Eden Park.
The Play It Strange Charitable Trust nurtures fresh new song writing talent amongst young Kiwis from all walks of life.
Youngsters are encouraged to develop interests and skills in songwriting and musical performance.
As well as great musical entertainment and fine food some unique and priceless auction items will be up for grabs to
benefit Play It Strange. A very special lunch with Sean Fitzpatrick is on offer, as is a large Split Enz tour poster
signed by all the band members, and a guided tour of Weta Digital in Wellington with flights included.
Rugby legend, Waka Nathan will be one of the special guests at the event and there will be many more priceless must-have
auction packages expected to raise top dollar for the charity.
Play It Strange CEO, Mike Chunn says “Not only is this a chance for us to raise much needed funds to help us encourage
young people to channel their energy in a creative and musical direction it’s also a show case for emerging new talent.
The likes of Play It Strange success stories Anna MacDonald and Louis Baker, both top 5 finalists in last year’s
National Secondary Schools Song Writing Competition are great writers and performers. These guys are already making
their mark in the music industry thanks to Play It Strange. Add the likes of Graham Brazier and Dave McArtney and Eden
Park is going to rock”.
Purposes of Play It Strange
1. The Trust is established to encourage young New Zealanders to develop interests and skills in music, composing and
performance. In promoting this purpose, the Trust wishes also to:
provide young New Zealanders with positive role models;
give life skills to young New Zealanders, such as self-confidence, reliability, responsibility, communication and
leadership, which will enable those young persons to make a positive contribution to New Zealand communities;
encourage and facilitate opportunities for young New Zealanders to make, and experiment in, music that will reflect New
Zealand's unique characteristics, thereby encouraging creativity and innovation in New Zealand music.
