Six Weeks Left For NZ Writers To Be In For The Six Pack
With only 6 weeks left to be part of the extraordinary event that is THE SIX PACK THREE, NZ Book Month urges established
and emerging writers from all over the country to get their entries in for the chance to have their work published and
read by literally thousands of New Zealanders.
Since it kicked off in 2006 the annual call for applications has seen hundreds of entries vying for six $5000 cash
prizes, plus a place in the published collection. In previous years entries have been received from a diverse range of
talent including published and unpublished writers with one of the youngest applicants (aged seventeen) winning a place
in this successful anthology. Project Director Michele Powles says “The SIX PACK is not only a book of contemporary
writing, it is an historical event and we want your voice, your story, heard”.
When entries close on March 26th and extensive judging process begins, culminating with a panel of celebrity judges
choosing five winning pieces of unpublished writing. The general public have a part to play too and choose the final
winning piece in an on-line poll. This year organizers are encouraging writers of essays, travel pieces, and biographies
to enter the competition alongside short stories, excerpts from novels and poetry.
Released as part of NZ Book Month in September 2008, the SIX PACK THREE celebrates kiwi writers with six pieces of
writing for only six dollars. Both the 2006 and 2007 SIX PACK’s have gone straight to the best-seller list and remained
there for several months.
NZ WRITERS GET BUSY … Money, celebrity and a huge audience await the six who win a place in the 2008 Six Pack, NZ Book
Month’s annual collection of new Kiwi writing.
