Te Roopu Taurima o Manukau Trust Achieves Accreditation
The sustained drive towards giving quality services to mokopuna by Te Roopu Taurima O Manukau Trust has been recognised by Quality Health New Zealand. It is the second time that the organisation has been accredited for a three year period. The award acknowledges the commitment to continuous improvements and the quality of life programmes delivered to all mokopuna. At the same time, the trust received certification for a further three years.
Te Roopu Taurima O Manukau Trust decided nine years ago to aim for accreditation as a way of managing risk. To do so meant that the focus needed to be on quality. “For mokopuna, accreditation means that the services meet or exceed the highest quality of life standards available in New Zealand,” said chief executive officer, Tui Tenari. She added that, “mokopuna and whanau can have confidence that they will receive quality care and safe services. They can trust in the abilities of staff to respond appropriately to their needs and to protect their rights.”
Quality Health New Zealand is a subsidiary of Telarc SAI Global Ltd. It was formed in 1990 with the objective of upgrading the standard of public and private hospitals and health services in New Zealand. It has developed national quality standards for clinical, management and quality improvement systems, against which a health service is evaluated.
Accreditation surveyors, who surveyed Te Roopu Taurima O Manukau Trust, examined the organisation’s focus on mokopuna and cultural appropriateness of services; the care and quality of life services to mokopuna; the governance, management and service systems; the safety of services, personnel and facilities; and the commitment to continuous improvement. To be accredited, a health service must measure up against the standards and demonstrate its commitment to quality.
“The fact that Te Roopu Taurima O Manukau Trust has achieved accreditation again is proof that our standards are high,” says John Marsden, chairman of the trust. “This of course gives assurance and comfort to mokopuna, friends and whanau.”
A celebration to mark the accreditation will take place, here are the details:

Venue: Telstra Centre, Great South Road, Manukau, AUCKLAND.
Media are welcomed to send reporters and crew along: Hon Shane Jones will be in attendance at approximately 3pm. A press release expected from his office today
