Press Release for No Sweat Parenting Event
“A ripper of an event!” That’s how well known entertainer, Pio Terei describes the No Sweat parenting evening he will be
presenting on Thursday 6th December at Bailey Rd School, Mt Wellington. “It’ll be great fun, with lots of humour, lots
of good stories… and mixed in with it will be some fantastic ideas on how to make some great changes in the way you
bring up your kids.”
One thing Pio can guarantee is that it won’t be boring. “We all know that being a good mum and dad is so important, but
we don’t want to be bored to death learning how to do it. No Sweat Parenting / Manāki Whanau is a special programme
we’ve put together for all sorts of parents. We’ve presented lots of them now all over the country; they have great
parenting ideas but the big difference is that the whole package, from start to finish, is a blast. It’s entertaining!
You’ll go home with your head full of good ideas and your face tired from grinning so much.”
The event is being hosted by Maungarei Community Christian Trust - the main part of the evening will be presented by Pio
Terei and John Cowan from Parents Inc.
“I know: most people would rather have their teeth drilled than go to a parenting event,” say Pio, “But this is
different. People come away feeling they have had a great night’s entertainment but they also take away a stack of
practical skills they are itching to try when they get home, and a dose of hope that they can make it as a parent. “
“We’ve presented No Sweat / Manāki Whanau parenting programmes to everyone from kindy mums to gang members, good parents
and not-so-good parents. All of them get something worthwhile out of it.” The programme aims to cater for a wide range
of parents, but especially ‘hits the nail’ with Maori and Pacific people. “It covers all kiwi parents but it’s a bit
funkier – it’s got a bit of brown tinge to it,” says Pio.
Pio Terei has established himself as one of NZ's most popular entertainers, both on television and in live events. Pio
is of Ngapuhi and Te Rarawa descent and is sincere in his passion for his whanau and his people. He has a strong desire
to see parents in communities around NZ raise awesome kids. Together with wife Debbie, he has three amazing sons of his
own.
John Cowan regularly does presentations for Parents Inc. and is also their senior writer and producer. John has spent
over 18 years working with youth and their families He has developed parenting and life-skills programmes, and authored
books and magazine articles. John has three teenagers, and has heaps of parenting experience!
Attendees receive a kete of take-home souvenirs which will reinforce the new ideas. Food and spot prizes contribute to a
relaxed atmosphere for learning in which an amazing amount of valuable information is passed on.
No Sweat Parenting/ Manaki Whanau, is being presented at 7 pm on Thursday 6th December at Bailey Road School, 19 Bailey
Rd, Mt Wellington. Come early to get a place and be prepared to be entertained!
