WE’RE HERE TO HELP, the latest film from South Pacific Pictures, is due to be released on Thursday November 8, following a red carpet world premiere in Christchurch on November 6.
WE’RE HERE TO HELP is a Kafkaesque comedy about one man’s David-and-Goliath battle with the bureaucratic machine. He wins, they lose!
The film is based on the real-life story of Christchurch businessman Dave Henderson whose battle with the Inland Revenue Department started after a minor altercation with an IRD staffer.

Producer John Barnett says: “This is a classic story about man against the machine. We’ve all had our frustrations with bureaucracies and this film captures those struggles -and the delight of winning.”
Ex-pat Kiwi Erik Thomson (The Black Balloon, Somersault and Australian TV series’ The Alice, MDA and All Saints) stars in the lead role of Dave Henderson, Miriama Smith (Spooked, Mercy Peak, Last Man Standing, Shortland Street) stars as his partner, Kath and Michael Hurst (Hercules, The Tattooist) plays Rodney Hide.
WE’RE HERE TO HELP was written by Jonathan Cullinane who also makes his feature film directorial debut with the picture.
Barnett (Sione’s Wedding, Whale Rider, What Becomes of the Broken Hearted?, Footrot Flats) produced the film with Paul Davis (Sione’s Wedding, The Tattooist) for South Pacific Pictures.
Sony Pictures will distribute the film in New Zealand and Target Entertainment is the international sales agent.
