Lloyd Jones makes the cut with Mister Pip
The glory year for Lloyd Jones continues. First the Commonwealth Writers Prize in June, last week the Montana Medal for fiction, now Jones makes it onto the Man Booker Longlist with his novel Mister Pip.
In contrast with previous years (the longlist has been announced publicly since 2001), 2007's list is restricted to a 'Man Booker dozen' - a mere 13 titles, compared with the usual 18-24. Jones joins other top international authors Ian McEwan and AN Wilson on the longlist of 13.
The 2007 shortlist will be announced on Thursday 6th September at a press conference at Man Group’s London office. The winner will be announced on Tuesday 16th October at an awards ceremony at Guildhall, London.
Jones is currently living in Berlin as this year's recipient of the Creative New Zealand Berlin Writers' Residency.
‘It has been a thrilling few weeks for Lloyd and we warmly congratulate him. Mister Pip has just been published in the US and the UK and is receiving very positive reviews. This reinforces the view that many people have had for some time that Mister Pip is the most important New Zealand novel for years. We’re keeping our fingers crossed for the Man Booker shortlist in early September.’
