Finalists in L’Oréal Professionnel’s inaugural Talent Spotting competition have been named and now they’re sharpening
their scissors in hopes of taking home the national title.

Two major awards – Young Stylist of the Year and Young Team of the Year – will be hotly contested by five of our
country’s most promising young stylists and two styling teams, who each have less than five years experience in the
industry.
The national final brings together the most brilliant entrants from five regional competitions – Dunedin, Christchurch,
Auckland, Wellington and New Plymouth.

Finalists have so far made it to the top of a stack of photographic entries from around the country, followed by live
re-creation sessions in their regions. They now all make the trip to Auckland to compete for the supreme awards.
The national final, which is the third stage in the nation-wide search, will be judged by top UK hairstylist Jonny
Engstrom and local industry leaders from around the country.*
Swedish-born, Engstrom is Art Director for celebrity stylist Guy Kremer and is based in Winchester. Mr Engstrom’s talent
has made him a hit with top designers and fashion and beauty editors across his homeland and abroad. He says he is
keenly anticipating judging the Talent Spotting final.

“The standard of entries from stylists with only a few years experience is just superb, so this is a very exciting event
to be involved in,” he says.
“The hairdressing industry is such a rewarding field to work in and I love that these awards help to recognise fresh
talent and inspire young stylists to develop their skills.
“I’m very much looking forward to catching a glimpse of New Zealand’s future leading stylists.”

“This competition is about encouraging and celebrating the next generation of hair-stylists. It gives them a chance to
show their peers and New Zealand what they are made of.
“We’ve got such a great wealth of young talent represented here and I think that says really good things about the
health of our hairdressing and fashion industries in the future.”
New Zealand’s budding hairdressing talent will compete in a live recreation on the day and then take to the stage at the
Talent Spotting national final awards evening at the Viaduct Harbour Alinghi Base on Saturday, June 23.
In addition to the two major titles, additional honours - National Trend Award and National Editorial Award [1] – will
also be presented. Automatic entry for these awards is given to all of the national finalists from around the country.
