PRESS RELEASE - Danny McCrum to tour with Tommy Emmanuel
Danny McCrum will be touring the country with legendary guitarist Tommy Emmanuel next week. He will be performing solo
as Tommy Emmanuel's support artist. Danny grew up in Auckland and has been writing and performing for fifteen years.
Endless hard work and determination has helped him establish himself as a professional musician and a highly regarded
live act.
In May this year he toured the country with his band the Danny McCrum Band, performing a series of shows from Kerikeri
to Invercargill. The band, formerly known as SPINNER, was formed in early 2000 and has worked with many great artists
including John Mayer, Nora Jones, Jimmy Barnes, Katie Melua and many more. They have stacked up a long list of
achievements and don't appear to be slowing down anytime soon, with studio dates booked in November for the recording of
three new singles.
When asked how he feels about performing solo without his band in large theaters Danny answered by saying "It's very
naked and quite dangerous to get on a large stage with just an acoustic guitar. You really have nowhere to hide if you
make a mistake or if there's a technical problem. But that's the beauty of it. It's a kind of acid test. It sorts the
boys from the men!"
Does he get nervous? "I almost forget to get nervous. When you perform for long enough you get used to it. It's nothing
to walk out on stage and play and sing. Get me doing something I'm not used to like a long speech or something and it's
a whole different scenario."
And how does he feel about being on stage with one of the worlds greatest guitarists? "Tommy is so good, so moving and
so unique that there really is no comparison. When he plays, I feel like I play the recorder; like our instruments have
nothing in common. He's devastating and inspiring all at the same time. On one hand you want to give up and never play
again and on the other hand you want to cancel all your appointments and just practice for twelve hours a day. It
doesn't put me off performing before him. We do different things and the fact is no matter how good you get, there will
always be someone better. Although if I was playing AFTER him it would be a different story!!!"
