Awards For City Gallery Wellington
Fresh recognition for City Gallery Wellington’s partnerships and programmes resulted in two awards this week.
On Wednesday evening, Ernst & Young’s long-term partnership with the Gallery received special merit in the prestigious National Business Review
Awards for Sponsorship of the Arts, with special reference to Ernst & Young’s sponsorship of the record breaking Patricia Piccinini and Michael Smither exhibitions. These awards acknowledge
partnerships between business and the arts that demonstrate a high level of vision, creativity and commitment, while
delivering clearly defined, genuine business benefits.
“Ernst & Young’s support goes well beyond a financial contribution “ says Gallery director Paula Savage, “ their ongoing loyal
commitment over 12 years has given the Gallery the confidence and security to undertake ambitious projects well beyond
our own resources.”
City Gallery was also honoured to receive the inaugural Arts Award at last night’s Maori Language Week Awards for a
special programme of Gallery initiated activities. A programme which included a public reading of Wiremu Grace’s new one
act play written in Te Reo, staged in partnership with Huia during Te Wiki o Te Reo Maori.
“This award affirms City Gallery’s ongoing commitment to Te Reo Maori and Maori Arts within our activities,” says
Gallery director Paula Savage. “Next week we celebrate Maori Writers Festival with the Indigenous Erotica reading,
featuring Cliff Curtis on Thursday 21 September, 6pm followed by Suzanne Tamaki’s Native Sista Fashion Parade on
Saturday 23 September at 2pm.”
