The Boost Mobile Street Tour - bringing you the hottest streetball and break dancing talent this summer
New Zealand’s biggest streetball event, the Boost Mobile Street Tour is back for another year, bringing you the ultimate in Streetball to kick off your summer. Streetballers will have a chance to show their skills and their hottest moves when the tour hits 5 cities around the north island.
The tour is a celebration of street culture encompassing Breakdancing, Streetball and Hip Hop and commences in Wellington on November 18. In each city, teams and individuals are invited to register and take part in the Streetball tournament which includes a “Shoot out” and “Dunk” competition – giving budding NBL stars a chance to showcase their skills.
The history of Streetball dates back to the 50’s in America where its popularity was based on its accessibility – it can be played anywhere, anytime and it’s free. Pro Leagues have since been set up around the world and have gained a unique following amongst basketball fans.
As well as a Streetball tournament, the tour also brings the best of Breakdancing and Hip Hop beats to each town it visits. The tour is hosted by leading NZ break-dancer ‘B Gurl Sheeq’ and top Breaking Crews from around the country will compete for large prize money.
The Boost Mobile Street Tour was created to support emerging talent across the full spectrum of street culture.
“This is the third year Boost Mobile has supported the Street Tour - it’s a great way to bring communities together, encourage emerging talent, and provide an environment for kiwi kids to have their turn to shine. The events provide a great day’s entertainment and are free so are accessible to anyone and everyone. We’ve seen some outstanding talent over the years and expect a whole lot more this year,” says Kellie Nathan, Head of Communications and Brand (Telecom).
This year also sees top apparel brand, Fantasy Ballers League (FBL) involved in the tour providing streetball gear as prizes and giveaways at each event.
People interested in registering for the Streetball Tournament should check out www.boostmobile.co.nz. Registrations will take place at 10:00am at each town location (see itinerary below)
