The Cruel Sport: John Coutts rallying after disastrous Day 3
Day 3 of the at the 29th World Gliding Champs at Eskilstuna, Sweden. was a disaster for world number one and New Zealander John Coutts who was forced to land out placing a low 19th place for the day. The result saw him drop from 1st to 21st place in the 15m Class. Day 4 and 5 of racing Coutts an aggressive and savvy competitor won a 1st and a 2nd placing clawing him back up to 10th, but 568 points behind and a maximum of 6 contest days left.
Gliding New Zealand spokesperson Stephen Tollestrup comments "A land out needn't be a disaster for John's bid to retain his title. In 2003 he found himself in a similar position and managed to take the title. He is really one of New Zealand's best sportsman and with 6 days left he there is still a lot of racing to do."
