Fouhy Narrowly Beaten In K1 1000 Final At German World Cup Regatta
Ben Fouhy, Olympic Silver medallist and New Zealand Kayak champion, was narrowly beaten in the K1 1000 at the German World Cup Regatta in Duisburg (NZT 11:10 pm).
Fouhy finished 00.75 of a second behind arch rival Adam Van Koeverden (Canada) in a time of 3:42.173. Athens Olympic Gold medallist Eric Veras Larsen finished in third behind Fouhy (3:45.133).
In Poland a fortnight ago these roles were reversed when Fouhy achieved World Cup success by narrowly beating Van Koeverden, and achieving the world's fastest time for the distance of 1000m.
"This was an extremely tough field and Adam raced really well to take the win. Competing at this level against the likes of Van Koeverden and Veras Larsen is cetainly helping in my preparation for upcoming events such as the World Champs," says Fouhy. "They're both top-class athletes and it's great to be here racing against them."
Fouhy also performed well in the K1 500 final up against a strong lineup, showing he's making great progress racing over that distance.
Fouhy departed New Zealand in April to set up base in Europe for the Northern Hemisphere's summer season in order to have the best preparation possible for August's World Championships to be held in Hungary.
