Christchurch Film's Key Spot, Miami Film Festival

Christchurch Film Gets Prime Spot In Miami Film Festival

The film of Christchurch housewife and mother of four children, Lisa Abbott, has been asked to take the prime spot at the Delray Beach Film Festival in Miami.

Abbott’s romantic comedy film, ‘Meet Me in Miami’, was 80% shot in Christchurch and stars local Christchurch actresses Brooke Abbott and Brigid McCelland.

The film also stars two of Latin America’s biggest heartthrobs, Carlos Ponce (‘Entertainment Tonight’) and Eduardo Verastegui (‘Chasing Papi’).

The New York Film Festival has also expressed an interest in showcasing the film after its successful world premiere in Hollywood generated a lot of talk in tinsel town late last year, appearing on Hollywood TV show 'Entertainment Tonight' twice.

A film about the importance of keeping a love promise, Abbott is delighted that ‘Meet Me in Miami’ was chosen for the festival in Miami.

“It’s just so neat to be a part of promoting Christchurch and New Zealand to the world on the big screen in Miami. We are fortunate to live in such a beautiful country and I really want more people to come here as it’s good for our economy,” says Lisa Abbott.

“I hope that when people see the film that they will want to come and visit the Garden City. It is such a romantic city,” says Abbott.

When asked if Abbot will be attending the Delray Beach Film Festival, she laughs.

“No, I’m a mother first and foremost, and I’ve got to pick up my four kids from school each day, so I won’t be at the festival in the US this time,” says Lisa Abbott.

The Delray Film Festival begins on March 8th, the same day that red carpet tickets to the highly-anticipated New Zealand premiere of ‘Meet Me in Miami’ go on sale in Christchurch.

Tagged as one of Christchurch’s most glamourous events of the year, eight MPs have already confirmed their attendance for the star-studded celebration of Christchurch’s film-producing housewife and mother’s outstanding achievements.

A limited number of red carpet tickets to the film premiere are available from Surtout Jewellers and Hoyts Riccarton.
