The Cottage is here to take a fresh and fabulous look at the stereotypes and misconceptions about queer culture in the
capital.
This is a new comedy written by and starring Cooper Amai and Kate Fitzroy, two openly out Wellington actors who are
ready to attack and embrace ‘gay’ labeling. Set in the toilets of Wellington’s magnificent gay bar Pound, The Cottage
takes its title from the European term cottaging – “scoring someone in the loo”.
The Cottage explores character extremes of the queer culture and brings them to life on stage - from the dizziest
Twinkie to the meanest Dyke . . . and the entire spectrum in between.
"She's ‘LESBIAN’, like being part of some kind of saggy-titted, incestuous tribe of sexually explorative women who
despise men, are exceptionally hairy and say things like: 'I'm SO hungry for your wet pussy'."

Kate Fitzroy - Actor/Deviser Kate has a BA in Film and Theatre from Victoria University. She has acted in various Summer
Shakespeare’s including playing Viola in 'Twelfth Night'. Kate has also performed in five Young and Hungry shows at BATS
and has been involved in theatre productions at Studio 77. Kate's experience in TV and Film includes; 'Dark Knight',
'The Tribe' and the feature film 'Event 16' directed by Derek Pearson.
Cooper Amai – Actor/Deviser Cooper has worked on stage part time for the past three years in plays such as ‘The Expert’,
directed by James Hadley, ‘Coldstart’ directed by Lyndee-Jane Rutherford. Cooper has done educational tours such as
Alcohol Safety & SEX wise through the Ministry of Health (THeTA) and Alan Duffs, ‘Books'n'Homes’. Cooper's experience in front of the
camera includes ‘Face Lift’, ‘The Strip’, and ‘Sensing Murders’, as well as some commercials.

Kate Fitzroy - Actor/Deviser
Kate has a BA in Film and Theatre from Victoria University. She has acted in various Summer Shakespeare’s including
playing Viola in 'Twelfth Night'. Kate has also performed in five Young and Hungry shows at BATS and has been involved
in theatre productions at Studio 77. Her most recent theatre work includes the 2005 fringe show 'A Stye of the Eye' and
the premiere of 'HATE CRIMES' at BATS in April 05. Kate's experience in TV and Film includes; 'Dark Knight', 'The Tribe'
and the feature film 'Event 16' directed by Derek Pearson.
Cooper Amai – Actor/Deviser
Cooper has worked on stage part time for the past three years in plays such as The Expert, Directed by James Hadley,

Julie Noever – Director
Julie studied an Undergraduate degree in her hometown of Dunedin and she is currently studying a Masters of Theatre Arts
in Directing at Toi Whakaari. Julie has directed such plays as Bystander by Duncan Sarkies & Footfalls by Samuel Beckett. Julie has recently finished directing and devising Girls, Suitcases, Highways & Wide Open Spaces. She has also taught at Otago University.
Sara Georgie Johnston – Deviser & Research Assistance
Sara has been working around New Zealand in professional theatre for more than 5 years; she has directed, devised and
acted in theatre around Christchurch, Dunedin and Wellington. Sarah is going to assist us in the devising process of the
play.
