Delta music concert for Hurricane Katrina victims
Aucklanders wanting to help the victims of Hurricane disaster can – and have a good night out to boot.
Local musicians are banding together to stage the Helping Hands for Hurricane Relief Concert – a celebration of the
music of New Orleans and the sounds of the American Deep South.
Profits from the concert, at Sky City on November 2, will go to Habitat for Humanity to help through ‘Operation Home
Delivery.”.
Performers include:
Al Young – authentic Delta blues.
Shayn Wills – Southern blues
Starlight – Cajun/zydeco music
Ronnie Taylor – grassroots blues
JamesRAy Band – Southern hillbilly rockin’ country. (with Special Guest Marian Burns on Fiddle)

Note: Hurricane Katrina hit the Bahamas, South Florida, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, the Florida Panhandle and most
of the Eastern USA from August 23 to 31 with winds of up to 280 km/h. More than 1200 people died, and total damages are
estimated at $US200 billion.
10.9 million individuals live in housing with severe physical deficiencies such as having no hot water, no electricity,
no toilet or neither a bathtub nor shower.
14.5 million house holds qualify for government aid, yet only 4.1 million are actually receiving any.
Most of the U.S. government's housing subsidies do not benefit the poor.
