Kiwi music fills Aotea Square
Aotea Square will be rocking with kiwi music as Auckland City celebrates 40 years of the 2005 Vodafone New Zealand Music
Awards this week.
Auckland City is a proud support sponsor of the 2005 Vodafone New Zealand Music Awards again this year as the red carpet
is rolled out for our home-grown music talent on Wednesday, 5 October.
“Music is an important part of any large city,” said Councillor Richard Northey, chairperson of Auckland City’s Economic
Development and Sustainable Business Committee.
“It helps to develop community pride and spirit, provides an opportunity for diverse ethnic communities to celebrate
their cultures and a chance for people to discover new ideas and concepts. Auckland City is the home of New Zealand
music.”
Music and musicians are a key ingredient to building strong and healthy communities, and putting New Zealand and
Auckland on the map.
The music industry and the wider creative industries are already demonstrating the potential to generate positive change
in the region’s economic performance, making music an important economic driver for Auckland city.
“We will continue to work closely with the industry to foster growth and to ensure its ongoing success,” said Mr
Northey.
Each year, Auckland City supports hundreds of events that generate economic and community benefit for Auckland. The free
Music in Parks and Dancing in the Street series are a testament to the city's commitment to supporting New Zealand
musicians and providing music for its residents.

since the introduction of the category in 1973, including including kiwi favourites such as Hello Sailor and
