Angela Brown, the dramatic soprano with the spellbinding voice, returns to Auckland in August to perform two concerts
with the Auckland Philharmonia, both under conductor Marc Taddei.
During Angela Brown's début concert with the Auckland Philharmonia in 2003, the American diva single-handedly created a
substantial fan base. Possessing a personality as big as her voice, the stellar Ms Brown has won the acclaim of critics
and audiences throughout the world.
She studied under the legendary soprano Virginia Zeani, and in October last year débuted as Aida with the Metropolitan
Opera, the success of which prompted an immediate New York Times front page feature article on the soprano.
On Thursday 4 August, Angela Brown will be in full splendour performing Richard Strauss's Four Last Songs during the
10th concert of the Auckland Philharmonia's Premier Series - the concert also features Rossini's Thieving Magpie
Overture and Prokofiev's Symphony No.5.
Three days later, on Sunday 7 August, the Auckland Philharmonia's POPs series kicks off with Angela Brown joined by
Gregg Baker, a baritone of imposing voice and stature who continues to make an indelible mark on the world of opera
theatre. Together with the Auckland Philharmonia they present an evening showcasing the great African American
Experience - from its roots in the cotton fields to the opera house of Gershwin's Porgy & Bess.
