It's Quiet.... Too Quiet
Press Release
THAT'S INCREDIBLE CINEMA
June 30th
As the days tick down before the launch of this years THAT'S INCREDIBLE CINEMA (TIC) section of the TELECOM NEW ZEALAND INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL, one person wasn't sleeping easy.
THAT'S INCREDIBLE CINEMA programmer Ant Timpson was concerned that he hadn't heard a peep from his ol arch nemesis, 'The Society for the Promotion of Community Standards'. The provocative lineup in this years selection should normally have caused the moral crusaders to foam at the bung and start petitioning. But it's been quiet.... too quiet.
Timpson explains, "each year there's always one or two controversial films that the Society seem to have an issue with, well usually only the ones with sex in them. So when I don't hear from them, I worry that I haven't been doing my job. When it's too quiet, it's like a war movie cliche - you suddenly get very nervous. However, I guess the answer is a lot more simple - the ongoing war we've had with them for years has finally been settled. We won and they lost. New Zealand filmgoers are now free to decide what they wish to see without interference from certain uptight citizens. Hard to believe I know, but the country will probably survive without their help.. hmmmn this will sound strange but the funny thing is.... I actually kind of miss the old buggers."
Highlights for this year include:
KUNG FU HUSTLE- Stephen Chow's brilliant martial arts comedy opens this years TIC section. Imagine if you can, HOUSE OF FLYING DAGGERS meets HOT SHOTS.
GODZILLA FINAL WARS - your final chance to see a Godzilla movie on a giant screen. Come celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Big G, you won't regret it.
THE LEAGUE OF GENTLEMAN'S APOCALYPSE - the cult comedy show from UK explodes onto the bigscreen. Are you local?
LAND OF THE DEAD - The final chapter in George Romero's definitive zombie saga that started way back in 1968 with THE NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD.
A HOLE IN MY HEART - causing controversy everywhere it screens is Lukas Moodysson's challenging drama about amateur pornography. Absolutely Adults Only.
DUMPLINGS - a wicked black comedy about the search fro eternal youth. Patrons are advised not to attend prior to eating.
Tickets are selling fast for certain films so don't sit back with your fingers crossed. Book now to avoid any major fights with your friends or loved ones.
