Amplifier Newsletter #174 - 22 June 2005
Kia ora , The NZ on Air grants were announced last week and no bands that Amplifier staff are associated with got one (sob). Bing Turkby though has shown what can be achieved with no grant and lots of imagination. We’ve had the video on high rotate up at Amplifier House all week, you can check it out below. After the slew of new releases last week it’s been a bit quite this week so we’ve had enough time to get the Gear section of the site back up and running. Keep your eyes open over the next few weeks for some great kiwi music items like clothes, hats, MP3 players and books. And what would an Amplifier mail-out be without mention of Fat Freddy’s Drop. The Wellington chart toppers are going on tour. Check here for details. http://www.amplifier.co.nz/nzmusic/15959/fat_freddys_to_tour.html

Bing Turkby - Chase Scene Bing Turkby represents Turakina by putting out way too many albums in his "hayseed surrealist style" (NZ Musician magazine quote.) He records at home by himself, but is joined by the mighty Nemo Spork on drums and Tyrone T. Blowhard on sax when playing live. For all those who love truth, justice, and Tangy Fruits (and Spaceman candy sticks), the Bing Turkby Ensemble is here to save the day
