Launch of Pacific Arts Centre promises to Inspire
The launch of the Pacific Arts Development Centre project, promises to inspire both the Pacific and artistic
communities.
As part of the AREDS strategy for greater prosperity for Pacific peoples, the launch is representative of two years
planning between the Pacific Leaders Group, AREDS and the arts sectors.
“This is a flagship project because it is Pacific peoples driving enterprise within a creative industries framework.
Projects support Pacific artists straight away” says Wilmason Jensen, Pacific Peoples representative in AREDS.
Other stakeholders in the project have assisted with funding, including Manukau City Council. Funding from NZ Trade and
Enterprise has enabled a mentoring programme for Pacific tertiary students to be established.
The PADC launch is being held at the Pacific Business Trust Building, 733 Great South Road, Otahuhu on Friday, 20th May
at 2:00pm and begins with an opening address by Associate minister of Pacific Island Affairs, the Honourable Taito
Phillip Field.
Reflecting its core business of excellence, the launch combines contemporary Pacific cuisine and top level
entertainment. Award- winning singer Sara- Jane Auva’a will be performing, along with top Auckland musicians Dixon Nacey
and Elia Gaitau. They have worked with artists ranging from hip hop – King Kapisi and Ladi 6, to jazz – Blue Train and
Max Stowers.
“We want to reflect all the good things about Pacific Arts enterprise. This launch is the beginning of a dream - and it
