The MIC UPDATE - 130505 - Galatos, Galatos, Galatos...
YOYOYO, the news you've all been waiting for...
MIC at GALATOS
As of this week (we took possession on 050505 - how auspicious is that?) MIC's new home is Galatos at 17 Galatos St, City. This marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for MIC as well as for Galatos. Built in 1917, Galatos is a character venue that MIC will utilise for cultural events - presenting media-art from film-makers, VJs, DJs, musicians and sound artists.
With 6 years of hosting diverse events, Galatos has a reputation that dove-tails with MIC's 12 year history of innovative media-arts practice. Galatos will continue to run as a night-time venue - but you'll be seeing much more in the way of screenings, performances and installations over all 3 floors - and we'll all be here during the day.
MIC has solid long-term plans for this venue and we'll keep you informed as we move through this challenging and exciting process. This is the beginning of something special and we appreciate your continual support. Come along and have a drink at some stage in the next few weeks and keep an eye out for upcoming special MIC events as well as the official launch in the not so distant future.

Sam Momeny from 5am has joined the MIC team to look after promotion and bookings at the venue. With over 8 years experience in entertainment industry as well as past successful events staged at Galatos, Sam will look after Galatos’ existing relationships as well programming a new roster of entertainment throughout the 3 spaces.
If you have any queries regarding Galatos or wish to book any of the venues please contact Sam on 021514605 or sam@galatos.co.nz.
Andrew Wood has joined the MIC team to look after admin and publicity. Andrew has ten years experience in the arts and academic sectors working in both research and administration. Andrew can be contacted on 3799922 or at andrew@mic.org.nz
MIC is seeking proposals for performances, installations and events in the new venue. Post proposals to MIC, PO BOX 168030, Newton, Auckland.
We are also looking for a bunch of part-timers who would be available on Thursday, Saturday and/or Sunday nights, to be the lovely welcoming face of MIC & Galatos. You would be on the door - or more accurately, at the desk - checking folks off the list, taking any door charge and stamping a lot of wrists! Contact: orlando@mic.org.nz
