Pataka Museum of Arts and Cultures, Porirua: Jack Or Black - A New Flag For The Nation? Jack or Black explores the debate that surrounds the issue of whether or not New Zealand should change its flag. This topical exhibition reaches into the heart of the issue by voicing the feelings of 'ordinary' New Zealanders.

Jack or Black features a large viewing screen where visitors can navigate through www.nzflag.com, in itself an important voice in the discussion. The www.nzflag.com website features a number of alternative design options created by students, artists, and other New Zealanders. These designs have been reproduced for the exhibition, allowing visitors to see for the first time how these options would look if transferred to a full sized flag.

Through images ranging from proposed new flags, cartoons and videos, Jack or Black presents both sides of the argument for and against the nation?s flag. The discussion surrounding the national flag has divided opinion amongst New Zealanders, where do you stand?

The exhibition opened on 14 May and finishes 21 August.

2pm Sunday 22 May: SAM HUNT - Live at PATAKA Join us at PATAKA for a special live performance by local favourite SAM HUNT. Two 40min skits with a break in between for refreshments.

$30 for performance and one year's Friends of PATAKA subscription or - $5 for current 2005-06 Friends of PATAKA or - $20 for the performance only.

GOTTA GET OUT THERE! The Out Takes 2005 Gay & Lesbian Film Festival runs in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch between 26 May - 15 June.

This year's dynamic line-up will appeal not only to the queer community, but also to wider communities. The range of films is one of the most diverse, provocative and engaging in the history of Out Takes, with those spanning all corners of the globe. Countries such as South Africa, Hong Kong, Canada, Israel, Russia and France all feature in the mix.
