Red Cross To The Rescue For Tiki-Touring Dancer
Tiki-touring dancer Marysa Dalton gets to rest her wary pointe-shoed feet this weekend in a vintage Morris Oxford on an
epic tour of its own.
Royal New Zealand Ballet dancer Marysa arrives in Christchurch on Sunday with New Zealand Post Tutus on Tour – a 5,500km
road trip taking ballet to 49 centres off the beaten track.
Pulling into Christchurch just in time to chauffeur Marysa, will be Red Cross global travellers Tim Nicholson and Joanne
Bowlt, who have come from Oxford in the UK to Oxford, New Zealand in their 1954 Oxford – fundraising all the way for the
Red Cross.
While Marysa has been touring the community theatres, halls and basketball courts of small-town New Zealand with a
busload of ballerinas, Tim and Jo are covering the same ground with their lives packed into the boot of their trusty
Series II, nicknamed Florence.
The unlikely road-trip companions are now teaming up to help launch the Red Cross Annual Appeal, which runs from
February 22-28.
Tutus on Tour hits the stage at Christchurch’s Aurora Centre for Performing Arts on February 23 and 24 and Tim and Jo
will be there too on the Wednesday night, collecting for the Annual Appeal.
“We’re taking time out from our epic journeys to support the New Zealand Red Cross Annual Appeal, and we hope New
Zealand supports it well too,” Tim says. “The Annual Appeal enables the Red Cross to always be there when it’s needed.”
