Womad New Zealand 2005 CD Released
Music lovers can enjoy a preview of what’s in store at WOMAD New Zealand 2005 on the specially created CD – WOMAD New Zealand Out Of This World 2. The CD, which will be in stores from Tuesday 1 February, features 14 tracks from some of the fantastic worldwide performers set to take to the stages at WOMAD New Zealand 2005 at New Plymouth’s Brooklands Park and TSB Bowl from March 11-13.
The CD truly is a world music journey, beginning in West Africa with a classic track by Alpha Blondy, superstar and radical voice from Cote D'Ivoire, followed by the sensational Daara J from Senegal and their innovative rapping hip-hop mix. Next up is Ozomatli – Mexico meets Los Angeles – then the legendary Richie Havens, a Woodstock original and American voice of real conscience and compassion.
From across the Tasman, The Pigram Brothers bring their country hearts to the mix, along with the pioneer of Aboriginal rock music, George Rrurrambu. The festival's African connection continues with the plaintive, keening voice of South Africa's Vusi Mahlasela, and the vocal mastery of Zap Mama. Heading to Europe, WOMAD New Zealand Out Of This World 2 includes tracks from Capercaillie (Scotland), Lo ‘Jo and Les Yeux Noirs (France) and Patrick Duff (England).
Finally, the journey brings us home, with the gentle musical strength of New Zealand's Mahinarangi Tocker and Ruia.
WOMAD New Zealand Out Of This World 2 is distributed by Border Music and available from all good music stores. Tickets for WOMAD New Zealand 2005 are available through Ticketek.
