Blue Hogs Hit The Slopes For
Police Snowboard Nationals
The boys in blue battled blustery winter conditions at Cardrona Alpine Resort today for the annual Police Snowboarding
Nationals.
Police men and women from the length and breadth of the country, from Whangerei to Invercargill, left fighting crime to
their colleagues for a few days while they battled it out for the title of Champion Blue Hog on the giant slalom,
boarder-x and slopestyle courses.
Ten centimetres of fresh snow overnight saw the slalom course in great condition although visibility was variable.
However, this didn’t deter Regan Boucher from Invercargill who beat off the competition into first place with a very
fast second run. Don van Onselen from Christchurch took second while third was Richard Lindsay from Invercargill.
By afternoon, the cloud had lifted to reveal the boarder-x course and the competition continued. Regan Boucher continued
his winning form, once again pipping Don van Onselen to the finish post.
The Blue Hogs finished the day with their traditional “Cannonball Run” – the police version of a chinese downhill, just
more chaotic!
The Nationals continue tomorrow when the Blue Hogs tackle the rails and tabletops of Cardrona’s terrain park – who said
hogs can’t fly!
