World Champion Poised to Take on the World Again in Spain Needs Sponsor Support
Wellington-based former World Champion Body Sculptor Mish McCormack is set to take on the World again at this year’s
International Body Sculpting competition in Spain in November – but she needs help to get there.
McCormack, once embraced by Arnold Schwartzenegger on stage at the prestigious ‘Arnold Classic’ in Ohio, has achieved
international success winning Ms Fitness Oceania in Melbourne in 1997 and Ms Fitness Natural Olympia in Los Angeles in
1999. Since then McCormack has dreamed of winning one last world title before retiring and is in the midst of a fund
raising drive to help her to reach that goal.
“I pretty much self-funded previous national and international campaigns - with help from family and friends. This time
though, the cost of competing is much higher than in the past and this has led me to seek sponsor support,” she says.
The ever-resourceful McCormack has taken an innovative approach to publicise her mission by featuring on a billboard
that calls potential sponsors to action. The billboard – located in Wellington’s CBD for the next few months – directs
potential sponsors to her website http://www.mishfitness.com where they can find out how to help her realise her goal of competing in Spain. Sponsors can expect to receive a range
of health and fitness related services in return for their support.
So far, McCormack has been successful in securing support from adidas and nutritional supplement company – Zopure.
McCormack’s road to the World title in Spain begins with an Oceania invitational competition in Palmerston North on 28
August followed by the National competition in Auckland on 2 October. “It’s been a dream of mine for some time and I’m
now more than ready to take on the World again,” she said.
A keen athlete all her life, McCormack’s main focus during her early years was gymnastics and athletics – where she
represented Otago in both sports. Moving on to take New Zealand’s Junior Bodybuilding Champion title twice, McCormack
then went on to win Ms Fitness New Zealand for three consecutive years.
McCormack was also awarded Powerade Personal Trainer of the Year 2002/2003 and once exclusively trained the Princess of
Brunei in Asia and New Zealand. A fitness model with numerous photographic assignments to her credit, she once worked as
a stunt double on the popular 'Xena Warrior Princess' TV series and has been the subject of many health and fitness
related interviews for New Zealand television, newspaper and magazine articles.
Responsible for inspiring hundreds of gym goers over the years, McCormack now works out of the Wellington branch of Les
Mills.
