Big Asian Media Event in Queenstown.
60 Journalists and film executives gathered in Queenstown and visited the Snowfarm location for a media event for the
feature film “Antarctic Journal” currently shooting in Cardrona near Wanaka.
The film is the first full Korean feature to be shot on location in New Zealand. Two weeks of the seven scheduled remain
with a cast and crew of approximately 90. The NZ production company is Beachfront Films under contract to SIDUS of
Korea. The crew is about evenly split between Koreans and New Zealanders.
The merging of the production styles of NZ and Korea has been achieved with some considerable success under “Antarctic”
conditions of snow, wind and difficult access. At the media event NZ producer Bridget Bourke fielded a number of media
questions mainly concerned with the logistics of weather and language barriers. The Korean Director Phil sung Yim, the
Producer and cast were appreciative of the friendly professionalism of their kiwi colleagues and are working closely
with a number of New Zealand companies including Weta Workshop and The Film Unit.
Beachfront Films Producer Richard Cox, said that the project is likely to create a strong film production relationship
with Korea, not only because of our great locations but also for the production values offered by state of the art New
Zealand production and technical resources.
