This week we have a great selection of choral music events happening around the country within the next week or so.
Orpheus Choir of Wellington: Orpheus Takes Flight An evening of choral music with a difference - Orpheus joins the air
force! The Central Band of the RNZAF, conducted by Flying Officer Owen Clarke, and Wellington's symphonic choir present
John Ritchie's Wings of the Morning. With James Rodgers, tenor, this work features words about flight (from the psalms
and Magee's famous poem). The other work is Gilbert Vinter's The Trumpets, with Rodney Macann, bass. This major piece
tells the story of Joshua and the walls of Jericho.
Held at the Wellington Town Hall on Tuesday 10 August at 8.00pm. Tickets through Ticketek.
Christchurch City Choir: AHUA Back by popular demand! A unique musical spectacular that tells the story of the young
Ngai Tahu warrior, Moki. Originally commissioned for the 150th Anniversary of the Canterbury Province in 2000, it was a
triumphant success at the world premiere.
Performing on 14 August at 7.30pm in the Christchurch Town Hall Auditorium. Bookings at Ticketek.
Willi Fels Memorial Trust: Bella Fiore On 14 August, 4.00pm at St Andrews on the Terrace, will be a recital of Italian
Baroque secular music for voice and chamber ensemble, featuring works by Monteverdi, Vivaldi, Cesti, Carissimi and
Frescobaldi.
This concert is to help raise funds for Donald Nicolson's continued study at the Royal Juliana Conservatorium of Music
in the Netherlands. Door sales only. Adult tickets $15.00
Musica Sacra Inc: The Queen of Heaven This concert takes place on the eve of the Feast of the Assumption, presenting a
programme of Marian music, ranging from plainsong through the Renaissance with Victoria and Palestrina to a selection of
more modern items, including the luscious "Hymne a la Vierge" by Pierre Villette, and Holst's dramatic "Ave Maria" for
women's voices. This will be an ideal opportunity to enjoy the warmth and breadth of Musica Sacra's singing in a wide
range of different styles of music.
Held on 14 August at St Michael's Catholic Church, Remuera, Auckland at 7.30pm.
