Fete de la Musique
Festival of Music
June 26th 9pm – 3am
At Happy, Latino’s, Beau Monde and Motel Tory Street Wellington New Zealand
The Alliance Francaise is proud to present the 8th annual Fete de la Musique festival of music. This year’s festival is located at four inner city venues and features twelve of Wellington’s most inspired and inspiring musical groups.
Fete de la Musique is a free event sponsored by the Alliance Francaise (the French cultural exchange centre in New Zealand) and the French Embassy. It has been designed to emulate the massive Fete de la Musique festivals that are held in Paris, Berlin and across the world. These events attract crowds in the hundreds of thousands. The Wellington event makes the varied and exciting Wellington music scene accessible to the public for one massive night of festival atmosphere.
“We are really excited about this year’s Fete de la Musique,” says Alliance Francaise Director Jean Francois Fievet. “It will easily be the largest and strongest that we have presented in Wellington.”
Happy, Latino’s Tapas Bar, Beau Monde and Motel are the events hosts, all located on Tory Street with in a minutes walk of each other. Twelve groups will perform in these four venues from 9pm till close at 3am. The music encompasses a wide array of genres, including jazz, rock’n’roll, Afro Beat, Latin, Kraut Rock, lounge, funk and folk.
Featured acts are the Modern Afro Beat Quintet, the Ill Phonics, The Flower Orphans, the Raskolnikovs, Zirkus, Jonathan Crayford, the Sambassadors, Green Herring, Sans Souci, Twinset and the Norman Meehan Quartet.
