Hamish Pepper Finishes Fourth at Laser World Championships
Our Olympic representative, Hamish Pepper, has finished fourth at the Laser World Championships sailed off Bitez in
Turkey, after notching up a 14th and 12th in the final two races.
The other New Zealanders competing at the Worlds also finished in the top third of the 145 fleet. Matthew Blakey
finished in 30th position, Andrew Murdoch in 31st position and Michael Bullot in 40th position.
It was an epic day on the water, with the decider of the World Champion title coming down to the last race. Leading for
most of the regatta was Robert Scheidt from Brazil, however he was disqualified in the first race of the day. He fought
back in the last race to win the World Championship and is now a record seven times World Champion. Runner up was USA’s
Mark Mendelblatt, who won the last race and finished just ahead of Australia’s Michael Blackburn who was third.
As for Pepper, it has been a magnificent comeback to the Laser class as he only got back i nto rac ing Lasers last year.

Michael Bullot 40th
