Trophy to celebrate Rally Success
The first competitor to cross the finish at this year’s Hella Battery Town Rally of Rotorua will be the recipient of a new trophy commissioned by the cities Mayor Mr Grahame Hall. The trophy was selected by Mr Hall, to celebrate the success of the rally, which has been Rotorua’s largest annual event for the past seven years.
The Hella Battery Town sponsored event is the single largest event in the Bay of Plenty region. The 2003 rally injected an estimated $5.3 million into the local economy, generating 1500 hotel bed nights with an event attendance of 10,000 people. This in addition to the 1.2 billion television audience broadcasted throughout the world.
Event Chairman Laurie Brenssell commented: “After several discussions with Mr Hall it was decided that a trophy would be a worthy method of celebrating the events success. The rally finish is held at 3.00pm on the Saturday in City Focus right in the heart of the city, and with the large public attendance, and the winning crew celebrating, a trophy is most fitting for this occasion.”
The large trophy will be held at the Mayor’s office throughout the year, and will be displayed at all event functions and rally start and finish.
The 2004 Hella Battery Town Rally of Rotorua begins with a ceremonial start on the evening of Thursday 8th July at City Focus in the heart of Rotorua with two days of competition, before concluding back at City Focus on the afternoon of Saturday 10th July.
