Pacific Arts Committee seeks nominations
for 2004 Arts Pasifika Awards
The Pacific Arts Committee of Creative New Zealand is seeking nominations for the 2004 Arts Pasifika Awards, the only
awards in New Zealand aimed at professional Pacific artists across all artforms.
Chair of the Pacific Arts Committee Marilyn Kohlhase encourages all New Zealanders to take advantage of this opportunity
to nominate those Pacific artists whom they feel deserve recognition.
"Pacific arts make a valuable contribution to New Zealand's international reputation and the richness and diversity of
the arts of this country," Ms Kohlhase says. "The annual Arts Pasifika Awards are a fantastic opportunity to celebrate
that contribution."
There are four categories of Awards:
* Senior Pacific Islands Artist Award ($6,000)
In 2003, this award was presented to Auckland writer Albert Wendt
· Pacific Innovation and Excellence Award ($5,000)
In 2003, this award was presented to New Plymouth sculptor Filipe Tohi
· Emerging Pacific Islands Artist Award ($3,000)
In 2003, this award was presented to Auckland multi-media artist Shigeyuki Kihara
· Iosefa Enari Memorial Award ($6,500)
In 2003, this award was presented to Auckland opera singer Daphne Collins.
Three of the four awards are open to all artforms. The Iosefa Enari Memorial Award is open to New Zealand opera singers
of Pacific heritage. Nominations are invited from individuals and organisations. Self nomination is acceptable. All
nominations will be assessed by the Pacific Arts Committee and the winners announced at a ceremony later this year.
Nominations close at 5pm on Friday 25 June 2004.
