MONTHLY FORUMS We¹ve had a great turnout for the this years forums so far thanks to the fantastic quality of speakers at
each one. April will be no exception, when we have not one but two guest speakers.
Publishing is a major source of income for most artists but is an area that has been chronically overlooked in the New
Zealand market. We are pleased to announce the guests for April¹s meeting as Chris Gough & Hannah Cornwell. Chris is the Managing Director of Mana Music which is one of the most successful Australasian music
supervisors with credits such as Whalerider, Perfect Strangers, The Strip and Mercy Peak to name a few.
Mana also represents screen composers including Don McGlashan, Plan 9 and Victoria Kelly. Chris has recently founded
Native Tongue, a 100% New Zealand owned publishing company of which Hannah is the General Manager. Chris is also a
partner in Mayday Management and a member of MMF Australia.
This will be an important meeting for managers & self-managed artists who want to learn more about how publishing works and how to generate more income from this area.
The forums are open to members and non-members alike. Admission: MMF members FREE. Non-members $5.00. Wellington
Tuesday 27th April. Indigo, Cuba St, City. 6.00 - 7.00pm Auckland Wednesday 28th April. NZMIC offices, 7 Great North
Rd, Ponsonby. 6.00 - 7.00pm
LATEST MEET 'N' GREETS Wherever possible we nab a music visitor on their way through a city for an informal meeting with
local managers. Auckland:
This month¹s guest is David Benge. As manager of Fur Patrol David has been instrumental in the band's success. Two years
ago David and the band relocated to Melbourne which eventually paid off for them when they garnered a deal with
Universal Music Australia. This is a great opportunity for anyone who is thinking of breaking into the Australian
market, and to learn some of the obstacles a kiwi band may face when relocating across the ditch. Wellington:
Mark Roach, chairman of MMF NZ and manager for Damien Binder, Lucid 3, El Hula and Velez will be in Wellington on Friday
7th May to discuss local and international management issues with local MMF members. Meet 'n' greets are only open to
MMF members as an exclusive membership benefit.
