Stars come out for Fred Allen Tribute!
Legendary All Blacks including Meads, Whineray, Lochore and Fox will join with former PM’s Bolger and Shipley at A NIGHT WITH THE NEEDLE, the tribute and testimonial dinner for Fred the ‘Needle’ Allen, the SPCA and The Salvation Army at 6.30pm on Tuesday 23rd March at the ASB Lounge, Eden Park, Auckland.
Sir Wilson Whineray & Sir Brian Lochore are joint M.C’s and entertainment is Mike King. An impressive contingent of All Black greats will attend including Eric Boggs, Des Connor, Andy Dalton, Tony Davies, Grant Fox, Sid Going, Andy Haden, Mac Herewini, Jock Hobbs, Arthur Hughes, Ian Kirkpatrick, Fergie McCormick, Don McKay, Colin Meads, Stan Meads, Waka Nathan, Bob Scott, Kevin Skinner, Sam Stahan, Tony Steel, Graham Thorne, Pat Walsh, Graham Williams and Stu Wilson.
The All Black legends will be joined by RT Hon Jim Bolger, RT Hon Jenny Shipley, Sir Richard Hadlee, Sir Murray Halberg, Lana Cockroft, Jeremy Coney, John Morrison, Bernice Mene, Allison Roe, and Miriama Smith as special guests.
Fred Allen became New Zealand’s most successful coach when he guided the All Blacks to 14 victories out of 14 during 1966 – 1968. He had earlier captained the All Blacks in every one of the 21 matches he played for New Zealand between 1946 and 1949. Fred Allen was recently awarded the Press service-to-sport award for his lifetime contribution at ‘The Halberg Awards’, which makes this tribute all that more special.

Rare 1945/46 2nd N.Z.E.F Rugby Tour of Great Britain Collectors Album This one of a kind album is from Fred Allen’s private collection of the 1945/46 Kiwi’s tour of Great Britain depicted in original articles and photographs. This exceptional piece includes signatures from four of the original Kiwi’s team: Fred Allen, Eric Boggs, Bob Scott and Johnny Simpson.
Fred Allen ‘All Black player/coach Collection’ of memorabilia including a signed 1967 touring rugby ball, a commemorative medal, original signatures and articles.
Opportunity to have your photograph with over 25 ex All Blacks and be “Captain of the Team”
A service from the horse ‘The Keeper’ valued at $10,000.00
The ‘Fred Allen Tribute Dinner’ is the third dinner presented by Tanalised honoring legendary New Zealand Sporting Legends. Colin Meads was honored in 2002 and John Walker in2003.
