Arts Encompassing 2004
Painting, pottery, crafts, entertainment, Wellington Cathedral's Arts Encompassing 2004 is a multi-faceted,
multi-talented show and exhibition, part of this year's Fringe Festival.
Arts Encompassing has two guest artists. Potter Jenny Browne and painter Jane Kellahan. Both are from Wellington; both
have established considerable reputations in their respective art fields both nationally and internationally.
Jenny Browne of Newtown will bring a touch of London to the show. Having studied at Chelsea School of Arts, she spends
her time between New Zealand and England where she has been showing and selling her pots at at London's Covent Garden
for 12 years.
Jane Kellahan who lives in Wadestown and has had numerous sell-out exhibitions in New Zealand, has also studied in
London where her paintings have been selected by the Royal Academy of Arts. Her work is in private and corporate
collections around the world.
They head a list of a hundred or so well-known, top artists who are expected to show their works - all for sale - at Art
Encompassing.
At lunchtime, weekdays from 12.45 pm to 1.30pm, entertainment organised by Capital Theatre Productions will be centre
stage. Says the group's business manager Dawn Sanders: "It's wonderful to have the opportunity for younger artists to
have a chance to show off their skills in the cathedral as part of Arts Encompassing."
Those performing include percussion group Strike, clown and music composer Gabriel Gschwendtner, the band Chocolate Ice,
and a talented group of actors from the Shakespeare Globe Centre NZ Young Shakespeare Company 2004 who will
perform exerts from Shakespeare.
Robina Ang and friends from Samuel Marsden College offer more from Shakespeare
with a collection of songs from the plays and music from the period. Branwen Millar and a choir of school-leavers from
Wellington East Girls' College provide music for yet another lunchtime concert.
Arts Encompassing 2004 at the Wellington Cathedral of St Paul, corner Hill and Molesworth streets, opens 20 February at
6pm, entrance free. The guest speaker is Te Papa's chief executive officer Doctor Seddon Bennington.
The exhibition is open Mondays to Saturdays 9am to 4.30pm, Sundays noon to 4pm, until March 11. The weekday lunchtime
entertainment, 12.45pm to 1.30pm, runs until March 5. Entrance to Arts Encompassing is free throughout this time; koha
