Music jams the parks on Anniversary weekend
More than 14,000 Aucklanders celebrated Anniversary weekend by attending free Auckland City Music in Parks concerts
around the city.
Six thousand people jammed Coyle Park, Pt Chevalier, on Anniversary Day to see Zed, Goodshirt, Augustino, and 48 May at
The Edge Jam in the Park rock concert.
The action was spread right across Anniversary weekend:
- top New Zealand dance acts Subware, Minuit, Nick D and DJ Slowdeck entertained a crowd of more than 3500 people for
the first Dancing in the Streets gig on Friday night
- Solid Gold Saturday at Tahaki Reserve, featuring Ray Columbus, Suzanne Lynch and James Ray, attracted 1500 people
- more than 1800 people made the most of the beautiful weather and enjoyed picnics at the ever popular Montana Jazz and
classical concerts at the Rotunda.

Eight at the Rock the Park concert at Coyle Park, Pt Chevalier?
There’s some sizzlin’ good salsa to get your hips shimmying at the Solid Gold Saturday Kantuta Festival on 28 February
at Tahaki Reserve, Mt Eden. The programme will feature Latin band Kantuta and DJs, as well as offering the public free
salsa dance lessons.
With one down and two to go, Dancing in the Streets will be hitting Lorne Street, behind the St James Theatre on 20
February and 19 March. The second night will feature Greg Churchill and SJD while the last has a lineup including Sola
Rosa and Concord Dawn.
Montana Jazz and classical music will continue to be on the menu every Sunday at the Domain’s Band Rotunda until Sunday
21 March.
Of the 36 free Music in Parks concerts around Auckland between January and March, all part of Auckland City’s Free
Summer series of events, there are 24 to go. Music in Parks has entertained more than 27,000 people this month alone,
smashing last year’s record of 16,750 for January. Last year the concerts proved extremely successful with over 45,000
Auckland residents enjoying some beautiful summer days and a wide variety of top quality music.
So grab a picnic and a blanket and head out to one of the city’s beautiful parks to enjoy some first class music.
