Scribe rewrites record book
Hip-hop singer-songwriter Scribe has broken a second New Zealand chart record.
His single 'Stand Up / Not Many' has been 10 weeks at number one in the singles chart, a record for any New Zealand
artist.
The previous record of nine weeks was set by All Of Us with 1986's America's Cup-inspired song Sailing Away.
Two weeks ago Scribe racked up number one in both the album and single charts in the same week, a first for any New
Zealand artist since the music industry began keeping records in 1975.
Scribe's single 'Stand Up / Not Many' has been in the Top 50 Charts for 16 weeks. His debut album 'The Crusader' hit the
top spot in the album charts two weeks ago, remaining there for a week.
Sailing Away reached number one in the singles chart in June 1986 staying there nine weeks on the back of New Zealand
America's Cup fever. Dave Dobbyn's Slice of Heaven spent eight weeks at number one on the singles chart also in 1986.
The Recording Industry Association of New Zealand (RIANZ) releases weekly charts based on a combination of record sales
and radio play.
About Scribe: Scribe is a new star of New Zealand's much celebrated young hip-hop scene. Following his outstanding guest
appearances on P-Money's 'Big Things' album, he released his own full length debut album The Crusader on Dirty Records,
out through FMR. The Crusader reached platinum sales in less than three days.
An icon of the Christchurch music community, Scribe spent his youth honing his skills alongside local groups
Beats'n'Pieces and Polynesian theatre company Pacific Underground.
His rap style is at once witty, conversational, emotive, and inspiring. He oozes charisma and delivers enthralling live
performances at every turn.
The debut #1 single is still out through Dirty Records / FMR and includes instrumental and 'a cappella' versions of
Stand Up and the legendary video for the song.
