Red Bull Studio Sessions with the Mad Professor
The great dub master of the globe Mad Professor returns to NZ and will be hosting a two day seminar in Auckland on remixing. It will be hands on course with the Professor demonstrating remix skills with an unreleased tune from local artist’s Salmonella Dub.
Neil Fraser, more famously known as Mad Professor started remixing about four years after he started his career as a recording engineer. His first job came in 1984 and was a remix of the sound track of ‘Coronation Street’ for Warner Bros.
The A for the project (Bill Drummond) thought that a dub wise flavour would give the soap theme a different appeal. Soon after this came ‘It’s a Man’s World’ by Brilliant. This was one of the first projects for PWL productions.
As the years went on, a diverse group of artists visited or sent their masters to Ariwa Sounds to be treated, doctored, retouched, and coloured by Mad Professor. The most famous is probably the Massive Attack remix album ‘No Protection’ This album, a remix of the Bristol’s band 1995 album Protection went on to sell several hundred thousand copies, & brought dub to a new generation of listeners.
If you require further information please just let me know. The Professor is also available for interviews if you are interested.
