For Auckland-based drummer and producer Richie Campbell, years of careful planning will culminate with the official launch of Kahu Records (KR) on Thursday, August 28.
An album and singles release party will be held at The View in central Auckland’s Karangahape Road (upstairs bar).
Widely acknowledged as one of New Zealand’s top funk drummers, Richie (ex-Ardijah, Moana & the Moahunters and Indigenous Funk Company) has also built up a credible reputation as a leading music producer.
KR has an impressive array of music in its artist stable including hip hop, R’n’B , funk, diva pop, dance and blues.
A compilation album featuring KR artists, ‘Dis Funk Channel’ will include tracks by hand-picked talents such as Kat Theo, Gail Tee, Koers, K–Denz, Lemuel Misa, Anthony Collier aka Sparx, Starlight* and Sarah.
Material in this compilation includes mainstream hip hop and R’n’B.
KR has a co-operative partnership with Tokyo-based SPM / Nexus Records which has strong corporate alliances for international distribution.
KR will be presenting a talent showcase in Tokyo, Fukuoka and Osaka in Japan in the last quarter of this year through this association.
Closer to home, KR have secured music industry stalwarts Global Routes Music for local distribution and marketing.
KR’s website will have exclusive information on-line about the artists, live performances and new releases. “My ultimate goal is to reveal to the world the wealth of talent that young New Zealanders have to offer, in particular Maori and Polynesian performers,” says Campbell.

Kahu Records celebrate their official launch on August 28 with album and single releases as well as live performances from some of KR’s top artists. See you at The View, K’RD, Auckland City, from 8pm until late.
