Confidence In Me Season: Monday 7 - Saturday 12 July Time: 7pm Tickets: $10
Planning to apply to Creative New Zealand in the next funding round? Then take a break from your spreadsheet and your superlatives and come and see Mel Johnston's documentary Confidence in Me.
In July 2000, Mel followed comics Jo Randerson, Gentiane Lupi and Jonny Brugh, playwright Ryan McFadyen and poets Moira Wairama and Tony Hopkins (part of POART) through the process of applying to Creative New Zealand.
And she was with them again when they got their envelopes three months later. As director, producer and camera operator everyone was totally sick of her by then - but it was too late! Mel had what she needed to create the intimate, entertaining, eye-opening 52m film that captures this (creative) process.
Both depressing and absurd, Confidence in Me is the perfect complement to writing your CNZ proposal this July...
"Determinedly alternative in style to the prime time TV documentaries that spoon-feed us by telling us what we'll see, explaining what we're seeing then reminding us what we've seen, Confidence In Me asks its audience to concentrate as much as they would on a live theatre show..." National Business Review
"It was so funny..." The Package
