Best Of Book Design 2003 Awards
The Book Publishers Association of New Zealand is pleased to announce the shortlist for the 2003 Spectrum Print Book
Design Awards. This annual competition is the only event where the publishing industry recognises the work of book
designers. Judges look for books with design features appropriate to their audience and showing flair, imagination and
innovation. The short list:

“This was not an easy job,” said Kay Buisman, one of this year’s two judges. “But the good look very good.”
The judges for 2003 are Hamish Meikle, Senior Lecturer in Design at the University of Canterbury School of Fine Art, and
Kay Buisman, Whitcoulls Christchurch Regional Sales Manager and they bring perspectives from both the design and retail
sides of the industry.
Winners in the four categories of Best Book, Best Cover, Best Typography and Best Use of Illustration will be announced
on Sunday July 20.
