The Temple in Auckland is a cornerstone of New Zealand music, providing performers with a forum for their talents, supporting the industry from grass roots level all the way to the top of the industry. The Temple has been battling noise issues for a number of years now, with the matter currently in the Environment Court. The cost of this battle to date is in excess of $10,000.
So, to help the Temple fight back, a fundraising gig has been scheduled for Thursday, July 17th at Galatos.
With noise complaints continuing to be thrown at many venues not just in Auckland, but around the country, and with more and more inadequately soundproofed inner city residential apartments being built, the problem of noise control will not go away for city music venues. The current rules allow the council to continue to lay unjust complaints against venues and force them to fight in court. To fight back the Temple needs your support.
It is time for the people involved and supportive of the NZ music industry to step up and get behind one of New Zealand's most valuable assets in local music. In one single night you can see the cream of the crop in NZ music talent, support a NZ music institution, help raise public awareness and send an important message to the powers that be that NZ music is united in its opinion, all for a mere $30.
For all the free and ridiculously cheap gigs the Temple has held and continues to hold, that $30 will be well spent you can be sure.
